Bars, Cafes, Discos, Cinemas...|
Pubs: Penny Black, Harry's and Muddy Murphy's come to mind. A great place to hang out, if you miss the pub back home. You should call for reservations, if in a group but solo or groups of two should be ok. Friday and Saturday nights can get very crowded.
Cafes: Bakers' Inn at One Fullerton. It is affordable, with a fantastic view of the harbour and Esplanade. Looks even better at night, when the lights come on. By the way, the sea breeze is great here.
Clubs: For those of you who would like to party the night away at least once during your visit, there are a few places you should go. Zouk, Phuture and Velvet Underground are located in the same building but cater to different party-goers. China Jump at Chijmes play R&B music, their live band on Saturday is worth listening to and is quite a popular spot, as is Carnegie's. You might also want to 'club-hop' at Muhd Sultan. It's clubs galore along the street, and if you don't like one place, you can simply move on next door. It's as easy as that. Most places don't charge for entry from Mondays-Thursdays. Ladies' nights are on Wednesdays so for those women travellers, take note. You don't pay for entry and house-pours are free and all-you-can-drink. The minimum age requirement differs with each establishment so be sure to bring along your photo ID for checks at the door.
Cinemas: Lido Cineplex and Cathay Cineleisure are the most popular venues for movie-going and they're both situated in town and near MRT stations. Expect long queues at Lido on weekends, but you'll enjoy their seats - they're rock-able! No matter which cinema you head to, the movie tickets are S$6.50 on Mon-Tue, S$7.50 on Wed-Thur, S$8.50 on Friday-Sun.
