Singapore enjoys a multitude of cultures, native and foreign. The population of this tiny island republic is made up of a cosmopolitan mix of Malays, Chinese, Indians, Eurasians and expatriates from all over the world, which makes this place a unique melting pot of cultures.

Casual dress is acceptable for most situations and occasions but some establishments may require a more formal dress code. It is always advisable to check beforehand on dress regulations, if any.

Local Customs:

When invited to someone's home, please remember to leave your shoes outside of the house. Gifts are not necessary but will be appreciated. Please pick out an appropriate gift, you wouldn't want to give your Muslim hosts a bottle of wine or offend your Chinese hosts by giving them a bouquet of frangipanis - they are meant to be offerings to the dead.
