If you do not want to stay with other HC members, or no one is available, here is what other members suggest.

The Inn Crowd - This hostel have raving reviews from 100% of its guests. Be sure to make reservations because it's a popular hostel and before making your way down, you might want to call ahead to find out if your reservation is confirmed.

You might also want to try Summer Tavern, The Betel Box or @Mt. Emily. Summer Tavern is conveniently located at Carpenter Street, with Clarke Quay and Boat Quay on the right. It costs S$20 per person a night but it's clean, seldom full (it's the biggest hostel in Singapore so you don't have to worry about making reservations) and free internet access (no one to tell you to get off the computer cos they want to use it). It's only 2 mins to the nearest MRT Station (Clarke Quay) and you can also walk to Chinatown, or to Funan IT Mall for all your IT needs.

The Betel Box is located at Joo Chiat Road, in the heart of Katong, the east side of Singapore. You should stay here if you want a real insight into how Singaporeans live/work and go around their daily business. The friendly owner is also famous for giving his free foodwalks (you only have to pay for what you eat) while explaining the unique culturalscape of Katong. Afterall, the Joo Chiat area has the highest concentration of ' "Best of Singapore Foods" awarded by independent food critics on websites, magazines, food clubs, critics and TV-Radio programmes. ' (taken from the Betel Box website). With free internet access and healthy fruit breakfast, this lovely hostel is surely worth a visit! :)

Boutique hotels cost less than luxury hotels. Hotel 81's chain of hotels are clean and cheap, but most of the hotels are situated in less than desirable places (red light districts).
