Don't drive to Lithuania your best car - it will be most likely stolen! Most of the cars in Baltic states are 10 and more years old. There were enough stories how some well-organized Lithuanian criminals were stealing cars from naive West European foreigners.|
At the moment (by January 2005) only Vilnius, Lithuanian capital, is considered to be relatively safe and almoast free from cruel robberies (which occurs anyway from time to time). Lithuania is a beautiful country to visit, but you have to be aware of different mentality of local people who were occupied and suppressed for a long time while being a part of USSR, and even untill now many people suffer poverty, which leads them to commit a crime.
It is recommended not to walk alone in the evenings, and to know how to get in contact with the local police.
