Dangers and Warnings

Don't drive to Lithuania your best car - it will be most likely stolen! Most of the cars in Baltic states are 10 and more years old. There were enough stories how some well-organized Lithuanian criminals were stealing cars from naive West European foreigners.
At the moment (by January 2005) only Vilnius, Lithuanian capital, is considered to be relatively safe and almoast free from cruel robberies (which occurs anyway from time to time). Lithuania is a beautiful country to visit, but you have to be aware of different mentality of local people who were occupied and suppressed for a long time while being a part of USSR, and even untill now many people suffer poverty, which leads them to commit a crime.
It is recommended not to walk alone in the evenings, and to know how to get in contact with the local police.
