It is very easy to experience munich by using public transport and using the car in the city makes almost no sense as there are always traffic jams and the parking situation is horrible (means you never find a place to park in the inner city).

The best idea for tourists is to buy a one- or three-day ticket for the inner city. Those tickets are available for singles and partners and they are deffinelty the cheapest way if you use the subway more than three times, which you definetly will.

Another good idea is to take a ride on a street tram (especially the lines 17, 18, 19) because they are riding directly through the city and you can see alot of sights and get a general impression of munich directly by looking out of the window.
