Mabrika! Mabrika! Welcome to the Kalinago Barana Autê, the Kalinago cultural village by the sea. Located in Crayfish River, the Kalinago Barana Autê has been in operation for the past fifteen months offering the many visitors to this unique site a second to none understanding of pre-Colombian life in the Caribbean by those who discovered our islands, the Kalinagos.
A typical visit to the Kalinago Barana Autê will include a 45 minute guided tour which will take you through our interpretation centre and detailed explanations/ presentations on the production of the canoe, construction and importance of the majestic carbet and cassava bread production
Traditional pottery making and basket weaving is also provided on site. Additionally, for those who are interested in herbal medicine, we have developed a herbal garden which contains several herbs of medicinal value. Here trained members of the Kalinago Heritage Society provide detailed guided tours of the garden.
So far we are convinced that the facility has been playing a significant role in the socio-economic development of the Kalinago Territory. This is being realized through direct and indirect employment opportunities as well as an outlet for the sale of agricultural produce and art and craft items.
