Visa and Documents and Embassies

1.Who needs a visa? Citizens of Bhutan and Nepal don't need visas for India. Citizens of Maldives can get visas on arrival. All others need visas, which can be obtained in Indian High Commissions, Embassies and Consulates Abroad. 2.How to get it? It depends on the nationality of the applicant. Citizens of Poland, Mongolia, South Africa, Bangladesh and a few other countries get free visas. Embassies & Consulates, of the country abroad and in the country India has diplomatic representation in most countries. In case your country doesn't have an Indian diplomatic mission, you can send your passport by post to the mission that is responsible for Indian visas from citizens of your country.

Tutors usually are requested for improving conversation skills. No teaching experience necessary, native English speakers are preferred.


8: English Teacher We need teachers for our English classes. Currently we have two different classes: intermediate and conversation. Class sizes usually run between 15 to 30 students, primarily adults ranging in age from 18-40. Native English speakers requested, teaching experience preferred.


9: English Teacher for Nunnery A volunteer is needed to teach nuns basic grammar, conversation and story telling. Ideally the teacher has experience and can help develop a curriculum and lesson plan.

11: English teacher An English teacher is needed to teach and tutor nuns at one of the local nunneries. The teacher should preferably be a native English speaker, but no previous teaching experience is required.


12: English teacher in Shimla An English teacher is needed for a monastery in SHIMLA (8 hours away from Dharamsala) to teach 2-3 classes a day to a group of 15-20 monks. Lodging is included, as well as meals in the mess. The teacher needs to be a native English speaker. Previous experience prefered, but not necessary. Absolute minimum commitment of one month is needed, but the volunteer should preferably commit to at least two months.


13: English Teacher in Katmandu, Nepal Wanted, in Kathmandu: volunteer English teacher(s) for newly arrived adult Tibetans, 2 classes a day, 5 days a week, each class about 1 and a half - 2 hours long. Native English speakers preferred and prior teaching experience essential as most of these new arrivals will speak no English at all.


14: English Teacher English teacher needed to teach a small group of women working with handicrafts. The classes run from 9.30 - 10.30 in the mornings, Monday to Friday. No previous teaching experience is needed, but native English is prefered. The classes are taking place in the Government area, 15 minutes walk from Mcleod Ganj. Free donuts provided to the teachers after class!


15: English teacher To teach a small class of 8-10 students basic grammar, conversation and story telling. Ideally the teacher has experience. The students are trainees under a nonprofit vocational programme.


16: English teacher A native English speaker is needed to teach 15 students beginner and intermediate conversation and grammar. Previous teaching experience is prefered, but not necessary. The volunteer should have the commitment of minimum two months.


17: English teacher An English teacher is needed to teach English to poor Indians. The position is offered in lower Dharamsala (a busride away from Mcleod Ganj).


18: English teacher An English teacher is needed to teach a small group of monks (usually around 3 monks). The teacher should be a native English speaker, but no previous experience is necessary. As the monks are busy during the whole day, the class is run from 8-9 pm.


19: Language Tutor Tutors are needed to teach English or French 1-1. No experience is necessary. Native language speakers preferred but also not necessary. Hours are variable and can be scheduled with the student.


20: English teacher in Sikkim A volunteer is needed in Ravangla, a Tibetan settlement in Sikkim, North-eastern part of India. The position that is available is to teach English to unemployed Tibetan youths. Most of these youths have recently dropped out of school. The volunteer needs to understand this, and be willing and able to offer some personal assistance when needed. A minimum time commitment of three months is needed. The volunteer should have some previous experience of working with troubled youths or in similar environments. They are able to offer accomodation facility too.

1: Experienced Gardener An experienced gardener is wanted to help create a small vegetable farm on the monastery grounds, and help train resident monks on garden upkeep and maintenance. Experienced necessary. The position is only available in early fall or spring, the proper time for planting."


2: Experienced Environmental Teacher Wanted for assisting in an Environmental Education campaign in schools neighboring Dharamsala. Studunts will primarily be children aged 6-18. Must be willing to travel and keep a busy schedule. Minimum 2 years experience required. This opportunity is available each year for the month of April.

1: After-school Arts Coordinator An Arts Coordinator is needed to run an after school arts class for a group of 10-15 children between 4.30-5.30 in the afternoon. The coordinator will be working together with two other volunteers to plan and carry out the art projects. Observe that due to lack of funding the volunteers are currently financing the arts supplies themselves.


1: Website Specialist Help update the current website (no redesign necessary). Knowledge of FTP web authoring tools is necessary. The designer should also train the staff in how to update the website. The institute is also having problems with their ISDN connection and they would need some help from outside in order to solve this.


2: Internet Application Teacher Trainer To train the center's three teachers in Web Design. Teaching experience and mastery of web publishing software is necessary. Knowledge of web hosting and programming a plus. The volunteer will help create curriculums and lesson plans.


3: Microsoft Excel Teacher Trainer To train the center's three teachers in Microsoft Excel. Teaching experience and mastery of Excel and all it functions and features is necessary. The volunteer will help create curriculums and lesson plans.


4: Small Business Consultant To help the center's computer and peripheral retail enterprise. To further develop the business plan and provide marketing and general consultation to make the retail efforts more productive. Minimum of 5 years business experience is necessary. Computer business experience is preferred. 3 or 4 consultations reviewing our methods and practices are preferred


5: Website Specialist To help finish constructing the existing, half-completed website and improve the design. Overall knowledge of designing, updating, and hosting websites is necessary. Staff training in site modification and updating is requested.


6: Computer Technician To repair hardware and software problems with the library's computers. Training staff in basic software problem solving and being on-call for spontaneous issues.


7: Media Archiving Specialist To consult on archiving the library's store of primarily audio (some video) recordings of lectures and teachings. To train the library archiving staff on archiving methods. Professional experience in media archiving is necessary. The library currently needs to review its digitization process and upgrade for the future.


8: Web Designer Person needed for revamping our existing website. Experience necessary. Due to limitted computers, preferably the volunter would be willing to work evening hours (after 5:30) or during holidays, or have their own computer."


9: Computer Teacher A female computer teacher is needed to teach basic computer skills and to develop a curriculum for one of the nunneries. The teacher is needed in the lower Dharamsala Center. Room and board is included! Teaching experience preferred.


10: Computer teacher A computer teacher is needed to help create a lesson plan and devise a class to teach any of the following: Microsoft Excel, Photoshop, PageMaker, internet usage, and website development. Experience preferred, but not necessary."


11: Database Developer We need an experienced developer to create a membership database application that will allow them to easily manage their members and subscriptions Currently (18th of April 2005) receiving help from Italo Vecchi regarding the database.


12: Computer Database Instructor A database specialist is wanted to teach small classes the basics of database management and implementation. Classes will usually consist of 5-10 individuals and be held daily for up to 90 minutes. Teachers will be expected to create their own lesson plan and assign homework.


13: Database developer A database developer is needed to build an office database for one of the departments of the Tibetan Government in Exile. The developer needs to be experienced in working with the programmes Oracles and/or SQL.


14: Staistical analyser An experienced statistical analyser is needed. The applicant needs to be familiar with the program SPSS and to be able to carry out the majority of the work independently..


15: Demographer The Tibetan Government in exile needs a demographer to help them with interpretation of senses data. The needs to be able to carry out the majority of the work independently and should therefore have previous experience working in the area.


16: Website Designer A website designer is needed for one of the departments of the Tibetan Government in Exile. A domain name has been registred, but the website is incomplete and a skilled designer is needed to finish the job.


17: Database developer A database developer is needed for one of the departments of the Tibetan Government in Exile. The department is currently storing all their data in paper form, but would like to switch and store it digitally if they can receive help from outside with this.


18: Website Designer A Website designer is needed to help design a website for one of the NGOs focused on democratic development. The designer should be experienced and be able to work alone, but also to instruct and teach the staff in the upkeeping of the website.


19: Website Designer A website designer is needed to update and renew a website for a human rights focused organization. The designer should also be able to instruct and teach the staff in the updating of the website.


20: Computer Specialist/Teacher A computer specialist is needed for one of the government departments to help them with a range of computer related issues. They want help with both a website and a database, but most importantly they want to learn how to learn these tools, update the website themselves etc. The volunteer should be fully comfortable in either of these (preferable both), but must be able to teach the staff how to do this by themselves, and to be able to commit for a minimum of three months.


21: Website designer/computer expert A website designer is needed to set up a website for one of the institutes belonging to the Tibetan Government in Exile. The designer should also preferably be able to assist the institute with fixing some software and hardware issues of various kinds, as well as providing guidance for the maintenance of both website and general computer related issues.


22: Hardware Expert A computer hardware specialist is needed for Nonprofit computer consulting organisation. Volunteer should have the minimum 5 years professional experience in trouble-shooting and repair of hardware. Volunteer would be expected to train and share knowledge with the organizations existing staff. Minimum of 2 weeks time commitment is required, but longer term is preferred.


23: Windows server specialsit A Windoows server specialist is needed to consult and train the staff of a nonprofit computer repair center. Extensive knowledge should be specifically in Windows Server 2000 or 2003.


24: Graphic Designer A Graphic Designer is needed to help design a monthly newsletter. The newsletter covers mainly local issues and happenings. The designer should be fully comfortable working with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
