The most important link for travelling by bus/train is - a comprehensive information system having in database timetables: all trains (over the whole Europe), all buses in CR and also several public transportation systems (MHD) in larger Czech towns (Prague, Ostrava, Brno);

Getting there and away,

Getting around by Air: PRAHA international airport, BRNO (RyanAir to LONDON);

Train: Direct trains: Aalborg-Hamburg-Berlin-Dresden-PRAHA-BRNO, FrankfurtM/Stuttgart/München-Nürnberg-PRAHA, Linz-PRAHA, Wien-ZNOJMO, Wien-BRNO-PRAHA, Wien-OSTRAVA, Bucuresti-Budapest-Bratislava-BRNO-PRAHA, Budapest-Bratislava-OSTRAVA, Košice-Žilina-OSTRAVA-OLOMOUC-PRAHA-KARLOVY VARY, Moscow-Warszawa-(Wroclaw)/(Katowice-OSTRAVA-OLOMOUC)-PRAHA, Kiev-Kraków-OSTRAVA-OLOMOUC-PRAHA, Leipzig-KARLOVY VARY;

Currency Czech Crown, `Koruna česká`, abbreviation: `Kč`, currency code CZK. 1 EUR = 28 CZK, 1 USD = 22 CZK, 1 LTL = 10 CZK (banks probably do not purchase LTL), Exchanging Money: When exchanging in small exchange offices watch for possible fake banknotes. Each valid banknote has to have watermark pictures, aluminium line, wide reflective `certain-angle-visible` line on 500-5000Kč banknotes. Be aware when paying with 5000Kč banknote, cashiers might confuse 5000Kč and 1000Kč banknotes, Credit Cards: widely used, lots of ATMs, Tipping: Locals do not give big tips (cca 5-10% of price), some people do not tip at all. It is up to you, Bargaining, Costs...

Telephone Every telephone number contains 9 digits, you do not need to use area codes, since they do not exist anymore. Though here are some hints:
Numbers beginning with 2 - The City of PRAHA(Prague)
Numbers beginning with 54 - The City of BRNO
Numbers beginning with 6 or 7 - Mobile Phone numbers
Fax, Internet Access Internet Cafés, price around 1EUR/hour...

Climate and When to Go


The Czech Republic consists of 2 major parts:
Bohemia(Čechy)-western part It is surrounded by mountains and highlands at all sides. The only river flows out of this huge basin - The Elbe River(Labe) and it flows into the North Sea.
Bohemia is divided from Moravia(Morava)-eastern part by the Main Continental Divide which means that Moravian rivers flow through the River Danube into the Black Sea.
Most important mountain ranges:
Šumava(Böhmerwald) SW border, highest point 1378m.
Krušné Hory(Erzgebirge) NW border, highest point 1244m.
Krkonoše(Riesengebirge) N border, highest point 1602m.
Králický Sněžník, central N border, highest point 1423m.
Moravian mts.: Jeseníky, North, highest point 1492m
Beskydy near E border, highest point 1323m.
