Passu is One of the oldest settlement sites in Gojal (Upper Hunza), lies between Batura & Passu Glaciers. The people are Ismailies of Tajik origin. In the beginning they had their own mirs/rajas but later on they came under the control of the Mirs of Hunza. They uprose twice against Hunza rulers but could not succeed. Around Passu, there are several short and long trekking routes (shown on the map). Good hotels are availabale here.
Passu is a village of farmers and mountain guides 15 kilometres (nine miles) beyond Gulmit. This is the setting-off point for climbing expeditions up the Batura, Passu, Kurk and Lupgar groups of peaks, and for trekking trips up the Shimshal Valley and Batura Glacier.
Very friendly people here. Cathedral Peak is the most beautiful mountains here. Its so steep very little snow sticks to it. The Golden Peak Range also lies near here. Check out the hanging bridges over the Hunza River.
Passu Glacier and Batura Glacier. Is a good base for exploring some of the best valleys. Three large glaciers are within an hour's walk.The village was partially abandoned after 1974 flood washed away most of its arable land along Hunza River.
People here speak Wahi, one of Pamir languages related to Farsi. Urdu and English.The village is a visitor paradise, with small narrow valleys, fairy meadows of Alpine flowers in all sizes, shapes and colors and of the sweetest fragrance. An area surrounded by snow-capped mountain peaks, they seems un-climbable and impenetrable.
The Passu opens up the heart of upper Hunza and welcome those who have a longing to know and enjoy the natural romantic beauty on earth- to those bold enough to walk up and down rough trails all day, to cross the mighty ice -cold milky glacier streams and rivers, to confront a glacial moat and massive crevasses and to have to trail cut by avalanche sidings.
