Introduction
The nature and geographic conditions of Adjara allow developing such branches of tourism as aqua tourism, ecological and agrarian tourism, hunting, fishing, medical, religious, mountaineering, etc. Development of proper infrastructure to serve foreign tourists has big potential in the Region.

Tourist and resort potential of the Autonomous Republic consists of 6 resorts (Kobuleti, Tsikhisdziri, the Green Cape, Makhinjauri, Batumi, Beshumi) and 19 resort areas, also 56 historical sights, 7 parks and preserve areas. There are 51 hotels and 30 sanatoriums in the Region. 8 out of 51 hotels have state shares, the rest 34 belong to private ownership. 5 sanatoriums are the state property, while 8 ones are owned by different organizations. Currently, most of the sanatoriums house temporarily displaced persons from Abkhazia. Today, the hotels and sanatoriums of the Region can serve 14 thousand guests. Total number of guests and tourists, including non-resident people, visiting Adjara reached 83,3 thousand people in 2004, i.e. 10 per cent more than in previous year.
The Botanical Gardens

The Batumi Botanical Gardens were founded by a famous biologist Professor A. N. Krasnov in 1912. The Botanical Gardens are situated to the north-east 9km far from Batumi. The Botanical Gardens cover 110h area. One can find different species of over 5 000 plants and 1200 rose species here. Diversity of the Batumi Botanical Gardens is enriched with different areas of flora including Caucasian, Australian, New Zealand, Himalayas, Middle Eastern, South American, Japanese, Mexican, etc. Great attention is paid to research Adjaran flora. The Botanical Department has collected the unique herbarium including 40 thousand samples of Adjaran flora. The scientists pay special attention to develop prospective branches, particularly planting bamboo in local forests. Bamboo development started in Europe in 1827. Krasnov’s expedition brought bamboo from China and Japan to the Black Sea area and planted it in the Chakvi Princedom. There are planted 25 out of 600 species of bamboo in Adjara. Here should be mentioned such species as Filostach Edeul or Mooso. Nowadays, many plants brought by Krasnov at different times are spread along the whole subtropical zone. Different exotic ones beatify the city parks. Most of them were planted and cared in agricultural farms. Today, one can find tung-trees, feijoa and other exotics in plantations here. The Batumi Botanical Gardens developing upon landscape and geographic principles presents not only the world flora but also the origin landscapes of the presented flora.

The Batumi Seaside Park

The Seaside Park was opened like a boulevard with spontaneously planted trees in 1884. Its area covered 5h. The boulevard was stretched from the former stadium area to the Hotel Intourist. There were only two alleys at that time there. The boulevard was main beloved place for visitors among them should be mentioned Emperor of Russia Alexander III, Empress Maria Fyodorovna, Emperor Nicolas II (the boulevard was named after him later), and great many other famous people. Today, the Seaside Park is stretched over 40h. The Park has been developed and beatified day by day. It is being covered with decorative slabs and courts. Bamboo alley is developed and enlarged. Chess pavilion “Nona” is a favorite place for pensioners and holiday-makers. Currently, beautiful monuments and statuettes are mantled at different areas of the Park. The areas are turned into small squares inside the Park.
