Info about Washington, United States of America

Washington state is located in the pacific northwest -- the top, left corner of the continental United States (aaah, there it is!). It's an outdoorperson's paradise (see activities below), family friendly, and very laid-back.

The state's population is clustered primarily around Seattle (west) or Spokane (east). Generally speaking, the western half of the state is forested, with maritime climate. (Yes, it rains frequently. However, quite often this is a very slow drizzle. If you want to blend in, wear a parka, but forget the umbrella.) The eastern half is generally arid and sunnier, more conducive to the farming that ensues. A curiosity are the frequent Native American (aka "Indian") reservations: because these are considered self-governing lands within the U.S., they're not subject to federal taxation. As a result, you'll find them catering to vices: gambling, sources of tax-free vices tobacco and alcohol, and selling fireworks in December and mid-June through July 4th.

Geographically speaking, there's a lot: glaciers on Mt. Rainier, recent volcanic action at Mt. St. Helens, access to the ocean, the Columbia river, mountains (the Olympic range in the peninsula, Cascade range to the north), hundreds of little islands (especially in the San Juan region), hot springs

Top Things to See and Do
Outdoor activities are abundant: bicycling, kayaking, hiking, boating, skiing, mountain climbing, Experience Music Project, Seattle Museum of Flight, Seattle Children's Museum, Boeing Factory Tour, whale watching, Museum of Glass, Burke Museum of Natural and Cultural History, Mt. Rainier National Park, Rodeos, Mt. St. Helens (Volcano), Pike Place Market, San Juan Islands, Hydroplane races, Floatplanes, Camping.

Neighbor regions/States:
Oregon, Idaho, Canada - British Columbia, Canada - Alberta, Montana.
