The Copper State is home to the Grand Canyon; which is probably the reason you are visiting. But there are many other things to see and do in our fine state. We were the last continental state (Alaska & Hawaii joined in 1959) to join the union, only becoming a state in 1912. The vast majority of the population are clustered around the cities of Phoenix (the capital) and Tucson. The rest of the state is sparsely populated, but growing fast. Our weather sets us a part with mild Winters and HOT Summers, but without the humidity or hurricanes of the South-Eastern US.
Our sparse population provides great opportunities to enjoy the natural aspects of the state. From the Grand Canyon in the North West to the Painted Desert in the North East; From the forested highlands of the Central and Eastern side of the state to the desert landscape of the South West.
The state is dotted with archeological sites and points of historical interest. Because of our dry weather and very little rain fall many historical sites are well preserved. From pre-historic Native American sites to abandoned mines and ghost towns. Like the Casa Grande Ruins, Montezuma's Castle, the Territorial Prison in Yuma, and the town of Tombstone. Additionally there are many sites of geological interest; Grand Canyon, Meteor Crater, Petrified Forest, and Kartchner Caverns.
So if you are only in our state for a few days, by all means go see the Grand Canyon. But if you can, take some extra time to explore and enjoy the rest of the state.

I have a friend from Argentina who wants to go to the Grand Canyon, Vegas, etc durning the last two weeks of June. Is there anyone else going on a roadtrip that she could tag along with. I think it'd be very expensive for her to try to do it by her self. If you're going, send me an email. My profile is northcarolina.
Want more guests! Add your user name here if you would like to receive more visitors - you should get more requests if listed here.

Clear blue skies and serene mountain views! Saguaro cactus! Beautiful star studded night skies and two nationally known observatories nearby. San Xavier Indian reservation and Spanish missions built in the late 1700's. Old western ghost towns and copper mines. One of the world's largest aviation museums. University of Arizona. Tucson Gem Show. Remains of 2000 year old Indian dwellings. Yummy real Mexican food! And, my membership entitles guests to tennis, swimming, fitness centers. Best of all, lounging on my patio in the sun or under the stars viewing the mountains and listening to birds and the sound of a cascading fountain.
Beautiful mountains, desert museum, rock-climbing, biking, and paragliding.
Hiking, canoeing or driving around Buffalo River National Park near our home.
