Tsukuba is called an island on the inland, which shows how isolated this place really is (that's why we've got lots of urban myths about the city as well). Might be good for a studying environment though... anyway if it's nightlife or fun that you're looking for, this is not the place for you. But... say, this might be a good place to see that living in Japan isn't all that glamourous & fast paced: Japan doesn't only consist of Tokyo and Kyoto (or some other tourist favourites).
