Introduction
Leiden is a nice and old university city. The city looks a lot like Amsterdam with all the canals and old houses but is a bit smaller and far less touristic. Because of its smallness, everything in the centre is in walking distance from each other. With 15 000 students comes lots of nice cafés and reasonably priced restaurants. Leiden is definitely worth a visit!

Top Things to See and Do
A few beautiful old churces, a lot of interesting museums, nice cafés along the canals (terraces on boats in the summer) and just a walk in the old centre is enjoyable.

Nearby cities/suburbs: Distancies by train: Amsterdam 30min, The Hague 15min, Schiphol (the airport) 15min, Rotterdam 30min, Utrecht 40min. Nearby villages like Voorschoten, Leiderdorp and Oegstgeest are well connected by bus.

Leiden is a beautiful old town famous for it's university and ties to Rembrandt and (interesting to US visitors) the Founding Fathers. It has canals and windmills - sorry, no people wearing clogs here. Loads of museums, plus near to the Keukenhof and the beach. www.leiden.nl
