Introduction

WELCOME to one of the finest cities in Germany!

Convice yourselves of the Glory of Dresden by checking out some fotos in the Dresden Travel Guide above, under the category Photos.

I have prepared a little model itinary for a busy 3-day stay in Dresden (see end of this guide). Click on Dresden Travel Guide above, to see it under Suggested Itineraries and Walking Tours. Of course that's never enough to get to appreciate the full spirit of Dresden, but if you don't have more time, to see the the amazing historic town and visit Dresden's Theater Houses and Museums, to party and eat all around the Neustadt district, to go hiking in the mountains around Dresden or to take the boat ride on a sunny day, then this is the best you will be able to do.

Top Things to See and Do
Historic Town - has finest baroque architecture, Neustadt district with its many clubs & bars & restaurants & cafes & crazy beautiful people, the mountain are know as Saechsische Schweiz - only 30 km outside of Dresden.

Suburbs or very close cities: Bannewitz (5km), Freital (10km), Heidenau (10km), Meissen (25km, dont miss it!!), Pirna (20km), Radebeul (5km),

Other nearby Cities: Freiberg (30km),
alexlala: Saxony is a small federal state, so all is close by. The link to the Saxon cities at the club is here. Highlights (other then Dresden) are: Leipzig (100 km from Dresden), Radeberg (very close). I have not been to the other cities in Saxony, but the ones near the mountains should be gorgeous! Also note, that Berlin and Prague (Czech Republic) are only about 180 and 130 km away, respectively!

Want more guests!
veit: I always want to meet "my" HC members - come and visit!! :-) Und Dresdner - ich möchte Euch auch alle kennenlernen, wenn ich schon soviel am Rechner für den HC sitze, macht es Spass, auch zu Hause nette Leute kennenzulernen, die ihren Weg zum Club gefunden haben.
calypso: I love meeting new HC members. Whenever you visit Dresden, just give me a call and we can go to a nice club, etc. Of course you can ask for accomodation, too. In my flatsharing community live two more HC members, so we're very open to new guests.
ritaanais: Come come come! Of whatever color or gender you are, whatever language you speak, whatever culture you represent, - contact me if you happened to be in Dresden!
Add your user name here if you would like to receive more visitors - you should get more requests if listed here.

Radebeul: the town itself is pleasant with Europe's northernmost wine hills, and a lot of old villas, one of them turned into the Karl-May-Museum - Germany's most popular travel/adventure writer lived in Radebeul. Dresden is a tram-ride away, it's probably the most interesting tourist destination in East Germany after Berlin, it's a beautiful and lively city. Moritzburg Castle, which you will find in all "Germany's castles" books ;-) is 10 minutes by car. Meissen with a gorgeous old town and the beautiful mountains of "Saxon Switzerland" are also very close. If you have even more energy - Prague, Berlin and Leipzig can all be reached in two hours.

I´ve moved to Zittau a few months ago, I feel like a tourist sometimes myself, nice small town, not much to do here, but absolutely great CLIMBING REGION!!! great in winter for skiing, too. So if you´re looking for an outdoor holiday, this is your place!
