Come see why 1 million visitors per year visit this little town of 35,000 residents. Hot Springs National Park was the first federally protected area in the national park system. 47 hot springs flow from the slopes of the mountains, at a temperature of 143 degrees. The Lakes feature tournament quality bass and trout fishing, year round water sports, scuba diving, spear fishing, and a 4 1/2 mile lake-side botanical masterpiece. State and National Parks offer camping, hiking, biking, horseback riding, canoeing and birding along scenic mountain trails. Magic Springs theme park and Crystal Falls water park have big name outdoor concerts every summer weekend. Play in interactive wonder in the Mid-America Science Museum. Dig for treasures in a quartz crystal mine, or nearby in the Crater of Diamonds State Park, the only diamond-producing site in the world open to the public, allows you to to prospect an ancient volcanic pipe 95 million years old and keep what you find. The vibrant community of fine art galleries and studios in the historic downtown have a gallery walk the first friday of each month. There are beautifully restored national landmarks in the downtown historic district, Victorian architecture, historic hotels, thermal spas and, as the boyhood home of Bill Clinton, historic presidential sites. Franklin D. Roosevelt, Babe Ruth, and Al Capone were regulars in the natural hot baths here. (WWW.HOTSPRINGS.ORG)
