Hello HC! This is my first time here, and I'm so glad to have found this
community. Here is my story:
My family and I immigrated from Taiwan to the US when I was 8 years old. When my
mother was growing up in Taiwan, right after she got her first job as a nurse,
the first thing she did after saving up some money is take her mom (my
grandmother) on a tour of the United States.
I am currently 25 years old, and have been working a number of years now. I
finally feel financially secure enough, and I want to continue the tradition and
take both of my parents on a trip to Italy. None of us have ever been there
before, but I know that my mom loves Europe and is fascinated by the history and
My parents have worked hard their whole life, and made many sacrifices to uproot
from everything they knew in Taiwan to move to a new country. They did not
understand the different culture, how government systems worked, and was not
fluent in English at first. They raised me and my brother up the best way they
knew how, and I want to finally say thank you to them for everything they did
I secretly purchased tickets to fly from California to Rome, Italy on February
6, 2018, and to return on February 20th, 2018. I haven't told them about this
trip yet, and plan to reveal it to them around Christmas time.
I am coming to HC to ask for any suggestions on how to make this trip wonderful
for my parents. I would love someone who knows Rome (or even places outside of
Rome, I think I want to spend one week in Rome, and one week traveling outside
of Rome. Nothing is set in stone yet.) who can show us the local hot spots!
Suggestions or offers on accommodation would be amazing, but of course, anything
(even suggestions) would be highly appreciated.
I have never been to Rome before, but have traveled in other countries/places
within the US independently, and am comfortable traveling with minimal
needs/accommodations. My parents, on the other hand, do not have travel
experience, and I think I would like them to have a more comfortable experience
than I usually need (they are also getting older...)
Anyway, that's a lot of information, but I just wanted to put my intentions out
there and see if the universe will answer :) Lovely to be a part of this
community, and I wish you all the best of the world!
