Aleppo
Syria
hello , last Friday i visited turkey and as known Turkey and Syria had an
agreement about abolishment of visas between two countries .
I went to Antakya first , the trip where good because everyone there speaks
Arabic for many reasons . Then i moved to Mersin thought that people there could
speak english , but for sorry i was totally mistaken no one in Mersin talks
English :( i asked to many people about directions but no one was able to
understand me , even in Mersin Port i went to ask about trips to Cyprus but no
on could help me because my English was never known for them :(
i don't know if the rest of the Turkish cities are the same , and if yes it is
disastrous .
my question is why people never talks English in Mersin even though it is a very
beautiful city ?
i hope to find an answer from Turkish member here :( and i hope to have another
good trip in Turkey at least in conversational issue ;)
Regards

In the east side of Turkey English education is not good. If you go to more west
you can see the people who can speak English:) If u want to cominicate with the
others im sorry but u should go to other part of Turkey.

hi mate,

it does never take 2 or 3 days to go to ankara or istanbul from where you are.
if u take a bus from Hatay, it won't exceed 14 hours to get to istanbul which is
the farest big city u may want to go. however, I recommend turkish airlines
instead of bus.

regards,

hi,

the answer is quite predictable: profitability..

as it happens all over the world, airline companies sell cheap tickets in small
numbers to take attraction. and sell the rest with the actual pice.

cheers.

i think it was your luck. I think there are people who speak English.

and i dont think this is their problem, it seems this is more your problem. it
can be better to learn some Turkish to get help or tell your problem.

so if you will not visit places that not so many people speak English, this is
your choice. i have guests they travel east, they had great experiences, pity
you will not experience these things... and I dont think it is a disaster if
they dont speak English.

good luck for your trips.

I know there are ferries from Tasucu to cyprus but it finishes sometime because
of winter, weather conditions...
